Inclusive Transportation!

Inclusive Transportation!

“Stand clear of the doors closing, please.” Does this sound familiar? If you have ridden the Metro lately, you may have heard these words, but did you know it is the voice of a child? It is because the Autism Transit Project intentionally features children’s voices on the public transportation announcements for local transits to be more mindful of the many different learning styles that children with autism have, especially as it relates to phrases they hear.

This initiative was started by Jonathan Tricther who launched the campaign in New York last year for Autism Awareness Month. The campaign has since spread to various transit systems in Washington D.C. and a few other places. At SCI we celebrate the inclusive efforts of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority and hope they help everyone enjoy the ride.
