Douglas, an SCI person supported, and his mother, share a home in Howard County through the Housing Choice Voucher Program and recently discovered they were facing an eviction. Very little information was available regarding why this was occurring, and they need needed immediate assistance.
SCI’s Service Coordinator (CCS) Sean and CCS Supervisor Alison quickly developed a plan and collaborated with Douglas, his family, and his employer to seek out solutions. The SCI support team provided guidance and secured vital resources on their behalf, including:
-Completion of housing applications
-Introductions to respite agencies for additional services if needed
-Coordinating the logistics of moving trucks and services for the safe transport of personal belongings to their new home
-Obtaining community resources for rent repayment
-And ensuring the Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) was aware of Douglas’ evolving needs to escalate support services
Through dedicated teamwork, SCI’s Service Coordinators collaborated with state and community organizations, Douglas, and his family to secure vital housing support with customized guidance, shared with dignity and care. Douglas and his family are thankful for the rapid response by the SCI team, whose support ensured that they were able to continue to work and live fulfilling lives.
