Coordination of Community Services

Coordination of Community Services

SCI partners with the Maryland Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) to provide Coordination of Community Services (CCS) for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families.

An African-American female SCI employee wearing a striped shirt speaks at an event.

We believe that every person should choose the supports and care that suits their individual vision of a good life.  Through our Coordination of Community Services (CCS) program, we work with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families to plan for the future, navigate systems, and reach personal goals.

Each of our CCS team members puts people first, beginning with getting to know each person we support and understanding their individual goals by developing a person-centered plan.

We can help you:

  • understand DDA services and how to access them,
  • create a Person-Centered Plan that reflects the life you want,
  • maintain your health, safety, and security, and
  • receive the supports you need.

When challenges come up, we’re here to help solve them, working with you to adjust your plan as your needs and goals change.

We also provides support to people on the DDA Waiting List. While you are waiting for funding from DDA to obtain community-based services, your CCS can help identify other community resources.

What Coordination of Community Services Can Look Like

  • Maintaining Safe Housing

When a young man with an intellectual disability learned his mother was facing eviction, his anxiety grew and his steady job was at risk. His CCS stepped in, helping the family apply for housing, connect with respite agencies, arrange safe transport of belongings, and secure rent repayment funding—while ensuring DDA was aware of his changing needs for ongoing support.

  • Building Independence

A devoted Special Olympics athlete lived quietly with his mother, his only companion outside of training. With his CCS’s support, he finally secured SSI benefits and a waiver, opening the door to his first job at a local coffee shop—where he has grown more social, confident, and independent.

  • Pursuing Passions

A teenage girl who loves animals, reading, and swimming learned to use breathing exercises and other coping skills to manage daily challenges. With these tools, and the support of her CCS, she earned her driver’s license and was accepted into a veterinary care course, taking important steps toward a future career doing what she loves most: caring for animals.
