Each year the Maryland Association of Community Service (MACS) presents the opportunity for organizations such as ours to nominate a Volunteer of the Year for recognition.  Nominations were requested and collected from staff at SCI. We are thrilled to announce that Douglas Silvern, a Service Coordinator in Frederick, has been chosen as a Volunteer of the Year.  He, his family, and SCI team participated in an award ceremony and lunch on Thursday, July 23, 2016 at the Fisherman’s Inn, Grasonville, MD on Kent Island.

Doug is a highly respected, active Volunteer in his community, as well as a long term SCI staff member. , He dedicates  his free time and energy to multiple causes and organizations, to  include Working Together, The Patty Pollatos Fund, The Frederick Run Fest, The FRIENDS Network, The Special Education Citizens Advisory Committee, Camp Claggett, and a community taskforce to create job for individuals with disabilities.

Whether volunteering at an event, chairing a committee, serving on a Board of Directors, or leading his own taskforce, Doug consistently works to aid the community through his actions.   He is always the first to respond whenever there is a call for help or action in the community, and can be counted on to show up and give it his all.  Doug epitomizes the strength and character our organization, and represents Service Coordination exceedingly well throughout the community.

Congratulations Doug!!
